On the 5th of Oktober 2011 I was sitting on the couch just risen from my sleep still yawning when the news came on like any other Wednesday morning. By the tone of the anchors voice I immediately woke up thinking a disaster had struck somewhere and there was breaking news. Steve Jobs, the famous CEO of Apple inc. had passed away due to pancreatic cancer. My family had always been quite a fan of Apple products and it was always a thrill to watch Job’s presentations so it was a slight dissapointment. After having made toast there were 3 more news headlines which all had the same tone of seriousness which reported this matter. It surprised me that this news was so big in the Netherlands. They conclude by saying ‘ Steve Jobs and Bill gates have drawn a great dael of admiration these d ays for their pioneering successes that changed the world we live in. While well deserved, this admiration may be overrated, as the accomplishments of these celebrated entrepreneurs is a collective rather than an individual act.’2 I agree with this statement which is also talking about Bill gates. Many of Steve Job’s successes weren’t solely made possible by him but by a great deal of unnamed and un-heard of people. This might be speaking only about Steve Jobs as a person and not about his death however its what people think of one before one dies that make someone decide if they give attention to ones death. Although being on the foreground of many of Apple’s milestone achievements I find that Steve Jobs’s death was overrated to a certain extent. Do not understand me wrong, I don’t make light of anyones death nor do I make light of Steve Jobs’s death however I do find that the immense amount of attention given by online and offline media, stores and people themselves was too much for a person who really did not actually invent anything groundbreaking. The advertisement offers free secure monitoring of credit scores, email alerts about recent credit activity, and prevention of identity theft. The main themes of these commercials are most ly negative. They try to guilt you into using their product. The commercials show examples of what would happen if you were to have bad credit. They explain that before making any major purchase all businesses will check for good credit. For example, if you were to buy a house and had bad credit, you would not be able to take out a loan to afford that new home. One commercial shows the three men driving around in an old, rusty, damaged car due to the fact that they had a low credit score and couldn’t afford a quality vehicle. Another commercial shows the three men wearing ridiculous costumes, working low-end jobs, trying to avoid their bad credit reports while working the best job they can at the time. FreeCreditReport. com advertises that all these negative attributes can be prevented just by longing onto their website and signing up for their program. In each advertisement for FreeCreditReport. com appears four out of fifteen of Jib Fowles’ Basic Appeals for Advertising. A huge appeal in these commercials is â€Å"the need for sex†. In six out of nine commercials there are multiple attractive women in skimpy clothing. In each commercial the girls are pointing and laughing at the guys because they have poor credit scores. These ads try to express that if you check your credit and handle your money well, or have a lot of money in general you would be able to have attractive women in your life. Two other appeals are â€Å"the need to achieve† and â€Å"need for prominence†. In most of the commercials the actors are working very low-end jobs. They are wearing gaudy outfits and claim to living in the basement of their in-laws. The ad states that checking their credit reports would have prohibited their now unsuccessful and unaccomplished lives. The commercials try to convey that if you were to visit the website and find out your credit report, you will automatically heighten your chances of finding a better job, and buying expensive luxury items. This is not true; you can only heighten your chances of being successful after your credit score has gone up. The website does not offer have any promotions to help raise your score, just find out the number. The last advertising appeal is â€Å"the need to feel safe†. FreeCreditReport. com commercials do a great job in reassuring consumers that they can protect them from identity theft, defaulting on credit cards, and by providing updated monthly reports on your credit. These ads try to convince consumers that if they check their credit reports online it will prevent the harmful effects caused by their own poor credit. When visiting the FreeCreditReport. om home page, the first thing you see is a huge blown-up picture of the three main actors in every commercial. Unlike in the commercials, where the actors wear bizarre get-ups and dingy clothing, on the website they are all dressed with a sharp clean style, wearing sophisticated suits and ties. The men are all standing next to a checklist of what the website can offer and how it may help you personally. All under a large bold banner stating: â€Å"get your free credit report and scores now! † When you scroll down the page the next bold text seen is a warning. The warning states that this page is secure and it is safe to submit your personal information into its database. The site states multiple times that is easy to check your report and scores. The website also stresses the fact that you can check your information for free. This information contradicts a large paragraph of fine print on the bottom left side of the webpage entitled, â€Å"Important Information/Fees†. The print is extremely small and the font is almost the exact same color as the background display. Many people may have a hard time reading this information due to its irregular placement on the site and poor font choices.

I have chosen to produce a poster, as I believe it is less time consuming and my work would be more flexible as I already have a digital camera at work.My advertising will consist of a teaser poster and a main poster. Teaching Status Report :: Dunn Middle School Education Teaching Essays

Teaching Status Report I cannot believe my time at Dunn Middle School is coming to an end. It finally hit me over Thanksgiving break that in less than two weeks I will not be making the daily drive through Trenton to see my sixth graders. What is more shocking is how upset I am about it. I honestly did not think I would grow so attached to certain students but when I think that I will get to see their faces on a daily basis I get really depressed. I think part of being a teacher is being able to keep a certain distance from the students so attachment does not occur, I clearly failed to do that my first time around. Other than dealing with the feeling of impending loss, JPE is still going really well. Since my last report I have finished my unit plan and I have been observed. I am still teaching mathematics but I base most of my lessons from the textbook and sometimes my cooperating teacher will teach a lesson if he feels it is a difficult concept to comprehend. During the science section of the block p eriod, I serve as a one-on-one tutor and disciplinarian so Mr. Williamson can continue with the science lesson without getting sidetracked. My cooperating teacher and I have a perfect relationship. He never steps on my toes but he never lets me feel alone with the students. I could not have asked for a better cooperating teacher, I am going to miss Mr. Williamson as well. In addition, my authoritative side is slowly improving. I think everyday I gain more control of the class. I think this control was exemplified when we had a substitute teacher for the second time. The first time the class had a substitute teacher they were out of control, they simply refused to listen to me. However, the second time there was a substitute I took control from the beginning of class and kept the students busy and focused the whole class period. My cooperating teacher was impressed that the students were so well behaved for a substitute teacher. I think the difference between these two events was my continued authority over the class throughout the entire period and the amount of work I assigned.

Family is a term that can be interpreted differently by every individual, as it defines itself by one’s personal experiences and expectations. In health care, one would define a family as a support system to an individual in a state of compromised health. The family role in the health care setting can vary based on the patient’s condition. In the intensive care unit the families play a large role especially, for those individuals whom lose his or her ability to provide self-care and make self-care decisions.As a health care provider it is important to understand the role of family system, family concept, and the application of an appropriate family nursing theory. Family System/Concept of Family For a family system to have a positive role in the intensive care unit the family must serve as a system in support of the individual family member. The family often plays a role in the plan of care, as the individual suffering the illness cannot serve as the sole provider of se lf-care.In some cases the ill individual cannot play a role in self-care. The family can play a role in the individual’s recovery by coming together as one to support healing, or simply identifying, and achieving individual health goals. All individuals in the intensive care unit develop a plan of care with the assistance of a multi-disciplinary team, including nursing, physicians, social work, and case management. In some cases end-of-life ecisions must be made primarily based on known individual wishes or documents, and the support of the family. Even when a patient in the intensive care unit has an opportunity for a positive outcome there are difficult decisions, difficult messages, and difficult conversations to be had. According to a study completed by Caroline Williams; the family plays a larger role than providing information about the individual; including emotional support to the patient, and a positive psychological effect (Williams, 2005).In the situation which a f amily members health is compromised to the level that they need to be in the intensive care unit, not only does the family need to come together to serve as a support for the patient, but also a support for one another. As health care providers one must serve a role in this process as well. According to Damboise and Cardin, the family’s needs include; information, reassurance, support, and the need to be near the patient (2003).Family Nursing Theory. Orem’s Self Care Model of Nursing involves the understanding that patients not only have the ability, but also the right, and responsibility to care for themselves (Clark, 1986). One believes that Orem’s model is important in the intensive care setting, often-times we rely too heavily on the families and support personnel, and forget to rely on the theoretical framework to encourage and guide the individual to provide self-care and make self-care decisions (Orem, 2001).When an individual is cannot provide self-care, as often is the case in the critical care setting it is important for the family to approach oneself needs as a system. One believes it is important for the family to understand the complexity of the self-care needs. Decisions for plan of care can be based on what the family perceives as the individual needs, which can be a deception of reality if nursing and health care personnel are solely providing such care needs. Many families visit the hospital and see the best of the patients day.The health care professional provide all self-care; they never see the patient struggle to take a bite of food, be cleaned up from numerous incidents of incontinence, or the struggle to get he or she into the chair prior to his or her visit. When this happens, the families’ reality of taking the individual home does not seem so unreachable. It is when the family plays an active role in such activities that they see the reality of providing care to an individual with debilitating health condit ions. By managing ones hospital stay be Orem’s Self Care Model, a family can make educated decisions on the plan of care.Conclusion Anytime an individual is in the hospital no matter what level of care the emotional stress on the individual and family can be very overwhelming. By supporting the individual with the concept of the family as a system, one is on track for the best outcomes. In some cases the best possible outcome is making a difficult decision to maintain the integrity of the individual involved. By practicing nursing care based on theories such as Orem’s we can ensure that one has done everything he or she can do to support positive individual outcomes.

There had been other assassinations in the past years but after weeks it became apparent that the assassination of Ferdinand was different. July 23, Austro Hungary gave Serbia an ultimatum, a set of final conditions that must be accepted to avoid the consequences like war.The ultimatum demanded that the Austro Hungarian officials enter to Serbia to investigate the assassination of the Archduke, Serbia had 48 hours to accept that or they will face war. By august the major European powers were at war with each other. Serbia was not ready for war with Austro Hungary but they didn’t want to accept the ultimatum. By the time it was over it were the war that had involved most nations of the world and the largest war that the world had ever seen. WW1 was the reason of millions of deaths such as soldiers and civilians.The countries that had more deaths in the war were Germany with approximately 1,773,700 then Russia with approximately 1,700,000 deaths and France with approximately 1,357,800 deaths soldiers. The U. S. send about 4,355,000 soldiers and approximately 120,000 of them die in the war because of diseases or fighting or other causes. When WW1 started Germany was able to send about 3,800,000 soldiers to war. This changed the world because was the war that had more deaths in history since now. Some countries gained their independence in WW1.Let’s take Poland as an example, before the Great War most of Poland was a Russian client state and during the war they devastated since they served as battleground but they gain their independence upon a conclusion of war. Coordination Compounds and Ligands In order to explain the formulae and structures of the complex compounds, or complexes, formed by transition metal salts with molecular species such as ammonia, Werner coined the terms primary valence and secondary valence, as explained in Chapter 1. These concepts remain valid today except that the term oxidation state has replaced primary valence and the term coordination number has replaced secondary valence. Werner had recognized that a transition metal salt could form a complex compound in which the metal ion became bonded to a number of groups which need not necessarily be the counter anions originally present in the salt. The orientations in space of these metal-bound groups would lead to the complex having a particular geometric structure. In this chapter the structures of transition element complexes are examined in more detail and some definitions of key terms are provided. One definition of a metal complex or coordination compound is a compound formed from a Lewis acid and a Brà ¸nsted base, a Lewis acid being an electron pair acceptor and a Brà ¸nsted base a proton acceptor. Thus the interaction of the Lewis acid metal centre in Ni(ClO4)2 with the Brà ¸nsted base ammonia to form a complex according to equation 4.1 Ni(ClO4)2 + 6NH3 † Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ [Ni(NH3)6](ClO4)2 (4.1) provides an example of the formation of a coordination compound. In writing the formulae of metal complexes it is conventional to include the complete coordination complex within square brackets, an example being provided by [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2, in which the coordination complex is [Co(NH3)5Cl]2+ with two chloride counterions. The Brà ¸nsted bases attached to the metal ion in such compounds are called ligands. These may be simple ions such as Cl-, small molecules such as H2O or NH3, larger molecules such as H2NCH2CH2NH2 or N(CH2CH2NH2)3, or even macromolecules, such as proteins. The co ordination number (CN) of a metal ion in a complex can be defined as the number of ligand donor atoms to which the metal is directly bonded. In the case of [Co(NH3)5Cl]2+ this will be 6, the sum of one chloride and five ammonia ligands each donating an electron pair. Although this definition usually works well for coordination compounds, it is not always appropriate for organometallic compounds. An alternative definition of CN would be the number of electron pairs arising from the ligand donor atoms to which the metal is directly bonded. To apply this definition, it is necessary to assume an ionic formulation and a particular oxidation state for the metal ion, so that charges can be assigned to the ligands as appropriate and the number of electron pairs determined. Types of Ligand Where a ligand is bound to a metal ion through a single donor atom, as with Cl-, H2O or NH3, the ligand is said to be unidentate (the ligand binds to the metal through a single point of attachment as if it had one  tooth). Where two donor atoms can be used to bind to a metal ion, as with H2NCH2CH2NH2, the ligand is said to be bidentate, and where several donor atoms are present in a single ligand as with N(CH2CH2NH2)3, the ligand is said to be polydentate. When a bi- or polydentate ligand uses two or more donor atoms to bind to a single metal ion, it is said to form a chelate complex (from the Greek for claw). Such complexes tend to be more stable than similar complexes containing unidentate ligands. A huge variety of ligands appear in coordination complexes, Any of a variety of elements may function as donor atoms towards metal ions, but the most commonly encountered are probably nitrogen, phosphorus, oxygen, sulfur and the halides. Cyclic compounds which contain donor atoms oriented so that they can bind to a metal ion and which are large enough to encircle it are known as macrocyclic proligands. Bicyclic proligands are also known which can completely encapsulate a metal ion. Some of these systems have given the names cryptand or sepulchrate, Certain polydentate ligands are particularly good at linking together several metal ions and are refered to as polynucleating ligands. Geometry In coordination chemistry, a structure is first described by its coordination number, the number of ligands attached to the metal (more specifically, the number of à Ã†â€™-type bonds between ligand(s) and the central atom). Usually one can count the ligands attached, but sometimes even the counting can become ambiguous. Coordination numbers are normally between two and nine, but large numbers of ligands are not uncommon for the lanthanides and actinides. The number of bonds depends on the size, charge, and electron configuration of the metal ion and the ligands. Metal ions may have more than one coordination number. Typically the chemistry of complexes is dominated by interactions between s and p molecular orbitals of the ligands and the d orbitals of the metal ions. The s, p, and d orbitals of the metal can accommodate 18 electrons (see 18-Electron rule; for f-block elements, this extends to 32 electrons). The maximum coordination number for a certain metal is thus related to the electronic configuration of the metal ion (more specifically, the number of empty orbitals) and to the ratio of the size of the ligands and the metal ion. Large metals and small ligands lead to high coordination numbers, e.g. [Mo(CN)8]4-. Small metals with large ligands lead to low coordination numbers, e.g. Pt[P(CMe3)]2. Due to their large size, lanthanides, actinides, and early transition metals tend to have high coordination numbers. Different ligand structural arrangements result from the coordination number. Most structures follow the points-on-a-sphere pattern (or, as if the central atom were in the middle of a polyhedron where the corners of that shape are the locations of the ligands), where orbital overlap (between ligand and metal orbitals) and ligand-ligand repulsions tend to lead to certain regular geometries. The most observed geometries are listed below, but there are many cases which deviate from a regular geometry, e.g. due to the use of ligands of different types (which results in irregular bond lengths; the coordination atoms do not follow a points-on-a-sphere pattern), due to the size of ligands, or due to electronic effects (see e.g. Jahn-Teller distortion): Linear for two-coordination, Trigonal planar for three-coordination, Tetrahedral or square planar for four-coordination Trigonal bipyramidal or square pyramidal for five-coordination, Octahedral (orthogonal) or trigonal prismatic for six-coordination, Pentagonal bipyramidal for seven-coordination, Square antiprismatic for eight-coordination, and Tri-capped trigonal prismatic (Triaugmented triangular prism) for nine coordination. Some exceptions and provisions should be noted: The idealized descriptions of 5-, 7-, 8-, and 9- coordination are often indistinct geometrically from alternative structures with slightly different L-M-L (ligand-metal-ligand) angles. The classic example of this is the difference between square pyramidal and trigonal bipyramidal structures. Due to special electronic effects such as (second-order) Jahn-Teller stabilization, certain geometries are stabilized relative to the other possibilities, e.g. for some compounds the trigonal prismatic geometry is stabilized relative to octahedral structures for six-coordination. Isomerism The arrangement of the ligands is fixed for a given complex, but in some cases it is mutable by a reaction that forms another stable isomer. There exist many kinds of isomerism in coordination complexes, just as in many other compounds. Stereoisomerism Stereoisomerism occurs with the same bonds in different orientations relative to one another. Stereoisomerism can be further classified into: Cis-trans isomerism and facial-meridional isomerism Cis-trans isomerism occurs in octahedral and square planar complexes (but not tetrahedral). When two ligands are mutually adjacent they are said to be cis, when opposite each other, trans. When three identical ligands occupy one face of an octahedron, the isomer is said to be facial, or fac. In a fac isomer, any two identical ligands are adjacent or cis to each other. If these three ligands and the metal ion are in one plane, the isomer is said to be meridional, or mer. A mer isomer can be considered as a combination of a trans and a cis, since it contains both trans and cis pairs of identical ligands. Optical isomerism Optical isomerism occurs when the mirror image of a compound is not superimposable with the original compound. It is so called because such isomers are optically active, that is, they rotate the plane of polarized light. If the ligand already contains a Greek prefix (e.g. ethylenediamine) or if it is polydentate ligands (ie. can attach at more than one binding site) the prefixes bis-, tris-, tetrakis-, pentakis-, are used instead. (See examples 3 and 4.) The numerical prefixes are listed in Table 2. 4. After naming the ligands, name the central metal. If the complex ion is a cation, the metal is named same as the element. For example, Co in a complex cation is call cobalt and Pt is called platinum. (See examples 1-4). If the complex ion is an anion, the name of the metal ends with the suffix -ate. (See examples 5 and 6.). For example, Co in a complex anion is called cobaltate and Pt is called platinate. For some metals, the Latin names are used in the complex anions e.g. Fe is called ferrate (not ironate). 5. Following the name of the metal, the oxidation state of the metal in the complex is given as a Roman numeral in parentheses. C. To name a neutral complex molecule, follow the rules of naming a complex cation. Remember: Name the (possibly complex) cation BEFORE the (possibly complex) anion.See examples 7 and 8. For historic reasons, some coordination compounds are called by their common names. For example, Fe(CN)63à ¯Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ­ and Fe(CN)64à ¯Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ­ are named ferricyanide and ferrocyanide respectively, and Fe(CO)5 is called iron carbonyl. Examples Give the systematic names for the following coordination compounds: 1. [Cr(NH3)3(H2O)3]Cl3 Answer: triamminetriaquachromium(III) chloride Solution: The complex ion is inside the parentheses, which is a cation. The ammine ligands are named before the aqua ligands according to alphabetical order. Since there are three chlorides binding with the complex ion, the charge on the complex ion must be +3 ( since the compound is electrically neutral). From the charge on the complex ion and the charge on the ligands, we can calculate the oxidation number of the metal. In this example, all the ligands are neutral molecules. Therefore, the oxidation number of chromium must be same as the charge of the complex ion, +3. K4[Fe(CN)6] Answer: potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) Solution: potassium is the cation and the complex ion is the anion. (4) Extraction of metals e.g. Ag and Au are extracted from ores by dissolving in NaCN to form complexes. (5) Estimation and detection of metal ions e.g. Ni2+ ion is estimated using dimethyl glyoxime. Ultrasonic cleaning of the catalyst enhanced both the adsorption of the modifier and the modifier- induced surface restructuring of the Pd. The high ee was due to proline adsorption on the Pd surface. New catalysts that can strongly adsorb proline could thus become important in heterogeneous catalysis for C=C double bond hydrogenation of a,b-unsaturated carbonyl compounds.

Lennie's condition seems to be a constant threat to the pair's jobs. The book opens with George and Lennie walking to a new ranch. The reader finds out later that Lennie's love to touch soft things lost them their last jobs. They finally arrive to the ranch to find friendly, and then not-so-friendly faces. One of Steinbeck's purposes for writing Of Mice and Men is to illustrate the trials and tribulations certain individuals must overcome. For Crooks, the African-American stable buck, it is the oppression he faces because of the color of his skin. Steinbeck quite frequently states the harsh conditions under which Crooks must live. "Little skinner name of Smitty took after the ni**er. Done pretty good, too. The guys wouldn't let him use his feet....If he could used his feet, Smitty says he woulda killed the ni**er." (20) This quote is a prime example of how African-Americans were viewed. However, Crooks holds to some dignity. "I ain't sure I want you in here no more. A colored man got to have some rights even if he don't like 'em." (82) Lennie, a main focus of the novel, is a main character for a reason. Steinbeck uses Lennie's character in order to show how American society attempted to ignore mental retardation and continued to live in ignorance about the disability. Steinbeck portrays Lennie as a constant burden on George. He is the cause of their having to switch jobs. George feels he must speak to bosses for Lennie, because Lennie is not able to speak intelligently for himself.
